It will be ready in the morning so you substitute their cold cereal with ease.
2 cups Milk
1/4 cup Brown sugar
1/4 teaspoon Salt
1 cup Rolled oats, regular
1 cup Chopped apple
1/2 cup Raisins (optional)
Spray or butter the inside of crockpot. Put ingredients into crockpot and stir. Cover and cook on low overnight. Serve with milk. Yield: 4 servings
Fun to experiment with. Splenda works well instead of sugars. Cinnamon is great.

The individual packets of oatmeal use pressed oats, the nutritional content is much different and there are tons of extra ingredients (preservatives etc). If you can make the effort to use steel cut, either in the crock pot or on the stove, your family will benefit!

This is best when you use steel cut oatmeal. It takes at least 30 minutes to cook on the stove and you have to keep stirring it. By doing it the night before in the crock pot, it is ready when you get up and you get the added nutrition of steel cut oatmeal. Much better for you than regular oats and way superior to instant.
