This classic American dish can be enjoyed as is or taylored to your family's liking.

Ingredients

6 Hot dog buns

6 Hot dogs

Preparation

Toast buns, if desired. Cook hot dogs by grilling or broiling about three minutes on each side, or simmering in water to cover for about 5 minutes.

Place on buns and serve with your favorite condiments.

Cook's Notes

Use a wheat bun to up the fiber in the meal.
Turkey dogs are an excellent healthy alternative to the traditional beef hot dog.
Add some chili and shredded cheese of your choice for a chili cheese dog.
For a different twist on the original hot dog, add some carmelized onions and 1 tablespoon dijon style mustard.

Hot dogs are family favorites, but require some sides to really be dinner. Start with a glass of milk, then add coleslaw or vegetable sticks, potato salad, and slices of melon or fresh grapes.
