When my roommate went to college in 1978, his mom sent him with a binder full of photocopies from her recipe book. He was generous enough to let me make a copy of his copy. This recipe is from that collection.
1 cup Yellow corn meal
1 cup Flour
1/4 cup Sugar
4 tsp Baking powder
1/2 tsp Salt
1 Egg
1 cup Milk
1/4 cup Shortening, soft
Mix together and bake in a greased 8-inch pan at 425 degrees F for 20-25 minutes
