Ham Chowder

I love this soup. It's great on a cold day.

Ingredients

1-1/2 c Water

3/4 c Uncooked wild rice

1/2 c Flour

1/2 c Chopped onion

3 cloves Garlic-minced or 1 tsp garlic powder or 1-1/2 tsp chopped garlic from a jar

1/4 c Butter

4 c Water

4 cubes Chicken bouliion or 4 tsp granules

1-1/2 c Potatoes, peeled and cubed

1/2 c Carrots

1/2 tsp Thyme leaves

1/2 tsp Nutmeg

1/8 tsp Pepper

1 Bay leaf

17 oz Can corn

2 c Half & half

1 lb Ham

Preparation

Cook water & rice.

Measure flour. Saute onion and garlic in butter until crisp tender. Stir in flour. Cook 1 min. stirring constantly. Gradually add 4 c water and boullion. Add potatoes, carrots and spices. Bring to a boil, reduce heat, cover and simmer 15 to 30 minutes. Add corn. Cover and continue cooking until veggies are tender. Stir in half and half cream, ham and rice. Cook until heated through.
