Basic Tomato Sauce for Spagetti

Add a bit more garlic for a tangier sauce if you want. If during the cooking the sauce seems a bit tart, add some sugar.

Ingredients

1/2 Onion, diced

4-6 Garlic cloves, minced

2 Tbls. extra-virgin olive oil

8-ounce Can any no-salt added tomato puree

6-ounce Can no-salt Tomato Paste(Hunts or Contadina)

2 cups Water

1/2 tsp. Dried sweet basil or 4 fresh leaves

Dash of cinnamon

Dash of oregano

Pepper and sugar to taste

Preparation

1. In a medium pan, saute the onion and garlic in oil until golden brown. Add the tomato puree and paste and stir until all is combined.

2. Add the water an stir well, then add the seasonings. Cook for about an 1 hour or until the sauce is reduced to a somewhat thickened consistency. Add cooked meat or serve with pasta.

Cook's Notes

Add more sugar and Italian seasoning to taste. Delete onions for kids.
