Church get together

Great dessert for any time. It does take a while to put together and a lot of hard work, but the finished product is well worth the hassel.

Ingredients

CRUST

2c. Flour

1 tsp. Salt

2/3 c. + 1 TBL shortening

4 tbl Water

FILLING

3 Large granny smith apples

2 Large gala or pink lady apples

1- 2 c. Sugar

2 tbl Four

Cinnamon

Preparation

CRUST

Mix flour and salt in bowl. Cut in shortening till crumbly. Add water and mix till dough sticks together. Split in half and roll out one piece to put in bottom of pie pan. Set aside dough.

FILLING

Peel, core, and slice apples. Preheat oven to 400 degrees.Mix flour and 2 TBL sugar in bottom of pie crust. Place about two cups of apples in bottom of pie crust, sprinkle 1/3 c. of sugar over apples and add cinnamon to your liking. Repeat process until all the apples are in pie tin. Roll out second section of pie crust and cover apples. Pinch edges of crust together and remove excess. Place pie on cookie sheet and cover with foil for the first 30 min. Remove foil and bake for remaining 30 min. Cookie sheet is to catch the juice that leakes out of the pie while it is cooking.

Cook's Notes

I normally add more water, say 5 or 6 TBL of water to make it stick faster and it makes it easier to deal with. The extera dough I make cookies with, you roll it out, cut it into pieces and roll in cinnamon and sugar. Then cook in toaster on high until brown. They make excelent snaks.
