Sausage with Cabbage and Noodles

One pot meal using inexpensive smoked sausage. German flavor with American ingredients.

Ingredients

2 Beef Polish Kielbasa or smoked sausage

1 lb. Egg noodles

Water to cook noodles

2 t. Butter or Oil

1 Onion, sliced

2 cloves Garlic, pressed or minced

1 Head cabbage, sliced

1 lb. Fresh mushrooms, halved

1 cup Wine (red or white)

2 t. Agave nectar (or honey)

Salt

Pepper

Chopped Fresh Parsley

Preparation

1. Pierce sausages with fork. Place into frying pan. Cover with water. Bring to a boil. Lower heat and simmer 10 minutes.

2. Cook noodles in boiling salted water and drain

3. While the noodles are cooking, heat butter in wide frying pan. Add garlic, onion, cabbage and mushrooms; saute for 10 minutes until cabbage is limp.

4. When sausages are cooked through, drain. Add wine and agave nectar.

5. Cook over high heat until wine is evaporated and sausages are browned.

6. Combine noodles with cabbage. Stir over high heat until everything is steaming. Add salt and pepper to taste. Top with sausages and serve. Garnish with chopped parsley.

Cook's Notes

Good served with a hearty dark bread and a red table wine.
