1. Combine in a medium saucepan the potatoes, garlic, and enough water to cover by 1 inch. Cover and bring to a boil. Reduce heat and simmer, uncovered until the potaotes are fork tender, about 15 minutes.
2. Meanwhile, microwave the broth until hot.
3. Drain potaotes and garlic/. Return to pan and smash with the cheese, chives, pepper, and salt.
