Yummy Peperment Cookies Kids Love

Ingredients

1/2 cup Butter -- softened

1/2 cup Shortening

1 cup Powdered sugar

1 Egg

1 1/2 teaspoon Almond extract

1 teaspoon Vanilla extract

1/4 teaspoon Peppermint extract

2 1/2 cups All-purpose flour - sifted

1 teaspoon Salt

1/2 teaspoon Red food coloring

1/2 cup Crushed Peperment stick Candy

1/2 cup White Sugar

Preparation

Mix Shortening, Butter, Powder sugar, eggs, and Flavorings in medium or large mixing bowl. Mix flour and salt, stir in. Divide dough in half. Blend red food coloring into one half of dough. Roll 1 tsp of each dough on lightly floured board into a strip about 4 inches long, Place strips side by side; press lightly togather and twist like a rope. Put on ungreased backing sheet. curve top to make a cane shape. Bake about 9 minutes at 375 degrees. While still warm sprinkle with crushed candy and white sugar. Makes about 4 dozen

Cook's Notes

You can make ropes into Wreaths or spiral cookies. Keep them straight to make candy rods.
