Ingredients
1/2cup Chana Dal (Split Chick peas)
1/4cup Urad Dal (Split Black beans)
2 Large onions (Peeled & chopped)
3 tablespoons Tomato puree
3 cloves Garlic (Chopped)
2 teaspoons Ginger paste
4 tablespoons Olive oil
2 tablespoons Chopped green Coriander ( To garnish)
Spices:-
1 teaspoon Ground Turmeric
2 teaspoons Ground Coriander
2 teaspoons Ground Cumin
1 teaspoon Ginger powder
1 teaspoon Garlic powder
1 teaspoon Dry Mango powder
1 1/2 teaspoon Garam Masala
3 teaspoons Salt
2 teaspoons Red/Black Pepper
1 Cinnamon stick
Preparation
1. Wash both Dals with cold water and place in a crock pot, add 4-6 glasses of water( the water should be about an inch abve the lentils), 1 1/2 teaspoon of salt, ground turmeric, cinnamon stick, ginger and garlic powder. Let it cook for 2-4 hours. (Untill the beans are soft.)
2. In a seperate pot heat the oil, add onions, garlic and ginger paste. Sautee till onions are carmelized,turn the heat low and add tomato puree. Also add all the remaining spices except Garam Masala.Also add 1/4 cup water. Let it sautee untill you see oill on the edges around the mixture (this should take about 5 to 8 minutes.). This means the spices have incorporated with the onion-tomato mixture.
3. Add this to the crock pot. Add water for desired contistancy. Cook another 1/2 hour.Add Garam Masala and mix.
Garnish with coriander

You can make it soupy for Rice and thick for Pitas. Also serve Cucumber and Onion salad.
