Maple Sausage Apple Braid

Sleepyheads will rise and shine when the aroma of this savory breakfast braid fills th house. It's sure to be a welcome addition to an autumn brunch menu.

Ingredients

1 lb Jimmy Dean Maple Sausage

1/4 c Maple syrup

2 Eggs

1/2 c Sliced green onions

1-1 1/2 c Dry herb stuffing mix

2 Large Granny Smith apples, peeled and diced

1pkg (17-1/4 oz) Pepperidge Farm Frozen Puff Pastry Sheets, thawed

2 Egg whites, beaten

1 tbs Water

4 tbs Sesame seeds

Preparation

In a large bowl, combine the sausage, syrup, eggs, onion, stuffing mex and dices apples. Mix well and set aside. Roll out each pastry sheet to a 16-in x 12-in rectangle. Divide sausage mixture in half; spread lengthwise down center third of each pastry sheet. Whisk together egg whites and water. Brush edges of pastry with egg white mixture, then fold in 1-in of pastry at top and bottom to enclose ends of filling. Make 3-in long cuts in pastry at 1-in internals on both sides of filling. Fold strips over filling, alternating sides, until filling is totally enclosed. Brush top with egg white mixture. Sprinkle with sesame seeds. Place on baking sheet. Bake at 400 for for 30 minutes or until golden brown.

Yield: 2 braids (8 servings).
