Old-fashioned dessert. Dates back to 1683.
1 c. Cranberries
1 c. Water
Lemon zest
1 Heaping Tbsp oatmeal
Sugar (enough to give it a "smart")
Boile 2 qts. water, add lemon zest (or strips of peel) and oatmeal. Add cranberry mixture and sugar; boil until it is bubbly and thickened.
This recipe is written the way it was "back in the day"--so you add sugar to however sweet you want it. ( I start with 1 c. and go from there, depending on the tartness of the cranberries.)
