This is my husbands favorite cake. His mom made it for him every year for him on his birthday so she gave me the recipe and I continue the tradition. The children love it too! YUM!!

Ingredients

Jello Cake
1 pkg. White or yellow cake mix
1 3 0z. pkg Favorite flavor jello
Topping:
1 Envelope Dream Whip®(2-2 1/2 cup yield)
1 pkg. French vanilla instant pudding mix (4 serving size)
1 1/2 cups Cold milk
1 tsp. Vanilla

Preparation

Preheat oven to 350º

Dissolve jello in 3/4 cup boiling water.

Add 1/2 cup cold water

Set aside, at room temperature.

Mix and bake cake as directed on pkg. using a 13 x 9x 2 inch pan.

Cool cake for 20 - 25 minutes.

Poke deep holes through top of warm cake (still in pan) with meat fork; spacing holes about 1/2 inch apart.

Slowly pour or spoon jello over cake, making sure it goes into the holes.

Refrigerate while preparing the topping.

Topping:

In a chilled, deep bowl, blend and whip Dream Whip; pudding mix, milk & vanilla until stiff (3 - 8 minutes).

Immediately frost cake.

Refrigerate cake -- store in refrigerator.

Cake can be frozen!!

Today I made a chocolate cake and used strawberry jello and then mixed choclate pudding package with cool whip to frost the cake

I have also been looking for this recipe to make again, it was one of my favorites, especially in the warm weather! Just thought I would share our favorite version. We like using a lemon cake mix, lime jello, and lemon pudding with the dream whip! We love this cake because it is light and so very moist, and so refreshing on a warm summers day!

I used to make this cake years ago, and had forgotten how. Glad I found it again! One of the favorite versions that friends loved was chocolate/devil's food cake with cherry or black cherry Jello. You don't have to confine yourself to white or yellow cake. YUM! (We never used topping, just served squares of the super moist cake.)

The one suggestion I have is not to use French Vanilla pudding mix for the frosting. The resulting frosting turns out the color of butter, yuck. I'll definitely make this cake again, but I'll use regular vanilla pudding or chocolate pudding in the frosting. I used this recipe to make cupcakes for the 4th of July. I chose white cake mix, which worked out well. The cupcakes turned out very cute with strawberry jello and berry (blue) jello. I used a meat fork to make the holes and used a drinking straw (placing straw in bowl of jello, then placing thumb over end of straw to trap jello inside) to put the jello into the holes. Don't be shy about really filling up the holes with jello. With the substitution on the pudding, this is definitely a keeper. The frosting never did get "stiff" as described in the recipe, but it thickened up a bit and was usable. Yummy.

Love this cake!!! My dad said his mom used to make a jello cake and he wanted my mom to make one for him like she used to. So she searched and found this one on here. My dad absolutely loved it. We've made it several times now and everytime it is excellent!! I am currently making one right now for my dad for Father's Day and while I'm waiting for the cake to finish baking I thought I would post a comment. You won't be dissapointed in this cake!! Yummy!!! TIP: I use a medicine dropper like the free ones from RIte Aid to poke holes in the cake and then I use it to fill the holes with the jello. Super easy!!!

Best Cake Ever. My wife makes it for me about 3 times a year and its always a treat. You can also make this with choclate cake, any red jello (I perfer rasberry), and of course, choclate pudding. Thanks for putting your recipe up.
