Crockpot Cheesy Penne

Prepare this meal in the morning and leave it to cook all day in the crock pot

Ingredients

1 lb Sweet Italian sausage

1 15 oz Can tomato sauce

1 14-oz Can diced tomatoes

1 tsp Oregano

1 tsp Garlic powder

Salt & pepper

1/4 cup Veggie or olive oil

2 tsp Granulated sugar

1/2-3/4 lb Penne pasta

1 cup Shredded mozzarella or Monterey Jack

Parmesan cheese

Preparation

1. Cook sausage in frying pan on medium heat until browned & crumbly Drain well.

OR

Cook sausage whole in casings; remove and dry, then cut into halved circles.

2. Place in crock pot. Add sauce & diced tomatoes Add oregano, garlic powder, salt & pepper, oil, sugar & stir well.

3. Cook on low 7-8 hours or high 4-6 hours.

4. Salt large pot of water & cook 1/2-3/4 lb of penne 4-5 minutes less than directions on box call for (about 7 or 8 minutes)

5. Add penne & stir well.

6. Top with 1 cup shredded cheese.

7. Continue to cook on high for 15-20 minutes or until pasta is tender & heated & cheese has melted

Great meal. I am not sure why you cook the sauce all day? It seems like you could just mix up everything and it would taste the same. It was great either way !

Just made this for supper tonight, and it knocked our socks off! I substituted minced garlic cloves for the garlic powder, and that gave it an "Italian Restaurant" taste. We just loved it, and so easy!!!

Even though this recipe is very simple for some reason my family thinks it is the greatest and begs me to cook all the time and there are never any leftovers. I add a few green peppers, substitute the diced tomatoes with Rotel diced tomatoes w/ green chilis and most of the time cut the garlic powder in half and add some fresh garlic finely minced.
