Bratwurst & Grilled Onion Hoagies

Ingredients

1 tbsp Butter OR margarine

1 Large onion, thinly sliced, separated into rings

1/2 tsp Paprika

1/4 tsp Salt

1/4 tsp Freshly ground black pepper

1 pkg. Jennie-O original lean turkey bratwurst

1/2 cup Beer*

2 tsp Olive oil OR vegetable oil

5 Hoagie/submarine sandwich rolls, split, and lightly toasted

Spicy brown mustard (optional)

Preparation

1. Melt butter in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add onion rings; cook 3 minutes or until wilted, stirring occasionally.

2. Sprinkle with paprika, salt, and pepper. Reduce heat to medium-low; cook 15 to 20 minutes or until golden brown and tender, stirring occasionally.

3. Meanwhile, combine bratwurst and beer* in a large saucepan. Cover and simmer 10 minutes.

4. Pour off and discard liquid. Add oil to pan; brown bratwurst on all sides, about 6 minutes.

Cook's Notes

* may choose to use non-alcoholic beer or water to braise instead. Serve in rolls, topped by onions, and, if desired, mustard; 51mg cholesterol.
