Curried Tomato Soup (Tamatar Soup)

This is good as a first course or as a late night hot drink.

Ingredients

1 tbsp Vegetable oil

1/2 tsp Cumin seeds

6 Whole peppercorns

2 Medium onions, diced

1 tsp All-purpose white flour

8 Medium tomatoes, chopped

1 Bay leaf

Salt to taste

4 cups Water

Fried bread crumbs OR

6 tbsp Boiled rice

Preparation

1. Heat the oil, add cumin seeds and peppercorns; fry till seeds puff up and the cumin seeds change color.

2. Add the onions and saute them.

3. Add flour, chopped tomatoes, bay leaf, salt & water; bring to a boil and simmer for 20 minutes.

4. Remove from heat and put through a strainer or food mill.

Cook's Notes

Serve with fried bread cubes or a tbsp of boiled rice in large mugs or bowls.
