June is Dairy Month

by Meals Matter | about the author 17. June 2011 08:52

An annual tradition developed to celebrate the dairy industry and its many contributions to our society, celebrating June is Dairy Month originated in 1937. Launched initially by the National Dairy Council (NDC), Dairy Month encourages families to include more milk, cheese and yogurt in their diets with special pricing and coupon offers. Nearly 75 years after its start, June is Dairy Month continues to spotlight the dairy industry’s commitment to community health and the multiple health benefits of this nutrient-rich food group.

Celebrate June is Dairy Month by getting nearly half the daily recommended amount of calcium from a family meal of Creamy Asparagus Pasta and Zesty Ranch Chicken. Finish up with Peaches and Cream Pops to cool off during the first official week of summer.

Milk, cheese and yogurt-filled recipes continue the Dairy Month theme all week long. Enjoy Balsamic Yogurt Grilled Vegetables, "Healthified" Mocha Freeze, Broccoli-Cheese Quesadillas and even Baked Apple Cinnamon French Toast. Be sure to register at MealsMatter.org to add these and other recipes to a personalized family meal plan and shopping list and be sure to follow @MealsMatter on Twitter.

“Family Meals Matter” features recipes selected by registered dietitians from the thousands of user-contributed recipes available at the free family nutrition and meal-planning website, Meals Matter (www.MealsMatter.org), operated by registered dietitians and moms with Dairy Council of California.
