Eat, Play, Love: Raising Healthy Eaters is a blog series by parents and dietitians whose stories and advice reminds us that we can overcome the challenges of feeding children. Subscribe to find ways to build lifelong healthy eating habits for your children.
Feeding children isn’t always easy. Whether you’re dealing with a picky eater or a busy schedule, getting a nutritious meal on the table that kids will actually eat can be a challenge. But don’t be discouraged – you can build healthy eating habits in your family!
Setting fixed meal and snack times and creating clear responsibilities around eating are simple steps you can take towards raising healthy eaters, as outlined by Ellyn Satter’s division of responsibility model. As the parent, you are responsible for the when, what and where of eating; your child is responsible for whether they will eat the foods offered and how much.
Eat, Play, Love: Raising Healthy Eaters is a new blog series on MealsMatter.org that will explore how approaching your child’s eating behaviors with a positive attitude and serving healthy foods creates enjoyable mealtime experiences that become a powerful expression of love and deepen family relationships.
In coordination with this new series, we’ve selected healthy recipes this week that kids love and can even help prepare. Start with a family meal of Creamy Hamburger Noodle Casserole, Super Orange Smoothies and Mother Grumpy’s Bumpy Cookies. Other kid-friendly recipes to try this week include Chicken Pasta Primavera, Best-ever No Bake Applesauce, Whole Wheat Pancakes and Honey Lime Fruit Toss.
