A Recipe for Health: 2010 Dietary Guidelines

by Meals Matter | about the author 11. February 2011 12:07

To combat rising rates of obesity and chronic disease, the 2010 Dietary Guidelines released in January offer a recipe for health that includes nutrient-rich foods from all the food groups and regular physical activity. If you’ve been following Family Meals Matter on a regular basis, you’re already well on your way to meeting the Guidelines because each week, we feature recipes that emphasize a variety of nutrient-rich food choices families can enjoy from all the food groups.

This week’s recipe selection features those foods specifically emphasized in the new Guidelines as foods to increase like low-fat milk and milk products, seafood, whole grains, fruit and vegetables.

Start with a featured family meal of Skillet Tuna Noodle Casserole, Garlicky Greens Sicilian Style and Cranberry Apple Dessert Risotto. Other healthy and satisfying Guidelines-inspired recipes to try throughout the week include Fillet of Sole with Spinach and Tomatoes, a surprisingly-low sodium Teriyaki Beef Soup, Super Good Pudding with lots of fruit and whole-wheat Bean and Cheese Quesadillas with Corn Salsa.
