At what age is it OK to watch the fat intake of a child? I know up to a certain age they should have things like full-fat milk and such.
Answer
Fat provides needed calories, vitamins and minerals for normal growth and development. It is recommended that solid foods be introduced after age 2, and this is generally when low-fat milk replaces full-fat milk. Many toddlers with picky eating habits rely on milk and milk products for their nutritional needs. If it is difficult for you to meet your child's calorie and nutrient needs, then I suggest you give whole milk. If not, then low-fat milk and milk products would be advised after age two.
